課程概述 |
This course follows materials covered in Varian (1992). Due to its clarity and block building perspectives, the book has been used by most graduate programs in economics and applied economics for almost two decades. Since this is only a one-semester course, we will focus on the first ten chapters in the book – technology, producers’ behavior, consumers’ behavior, and consumers’ welfare measurement. Chapter outline of major contents to be covered in the class will be handed out before the start of each new chapter. |

課程目標 |
This course is the first half of the one-year core course in "Microeconomic Theory" for master students in the department of agricultural economics.
The first semester for "Microeconomic Theory" is aimed at getting students familiar with the concepts of optimization with/without constraints, the envelope theorem, and the different approaches to comparative statics analysis.
The second semester which covers uncertainty, game theory and general equilibrium analysis will be lectured by Professor Fung-Mey Huang. Students successfully passing this first-semester course will find it's a lot easier to follow and understand the materials covered in the second semester.
